Shanghai Sunday

Last weekend we spent some time at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show. The new Chevy Camaro got a lot of attention.

Surprisingly so did the compact-size Cruze, also from Chevrolet.

There are seven Saturn solenoids under the hood of every Cruze, along with about forty other makes and models.

The crowds throughout Halls 1, 2 and 3 looked a lot like this. It gets old pretty quick when people are constantly running into, stepping on, or pushing you out of the way. If somebody wants to take a photo or get a closer look, you are an afterthought. However in Hall 4, which housed Ferrari and Lamborghini, it was absolute chaos. We were so busy just trying to stay on our feet that the thought never occurred to either Klynt or me to snap a picture of all the commotion. I wish I had photos to share of the sports cars, but we weren't even able to catch a glimpse.

Klynt thinks this is the car for me! All I have to say is “uh…no!”

With the better part of an afternoon left, we hopped into a cab and headed over to the Pearl Tower. It was a great day to view the city from up top.

The Shanghai World Financial Center is the tallest building in Asia.

These were snapped early this morning on the way to Starbucks. It’s hard to be grumpy with the sun shining so brightly, and the promise of a latte!

Pile O' Pansies

Move over Pansies, it’s time to make way for the summer Petunias! Crews throughout the city have been busy-as little bees uprooting the flowers and replacing them with something a little more heat-hardy; just in time for the upcoming meltdown. Blaaahck!

Alone Again

Ho-hum, my guests have come and gone. The apartment is quiet and still. Our time together passed just as quickly as I had suspected it would. While I’m quite certain he wouldn’t admit it, I think Klynt is breathing a sigh of relief now that I am not asking him (on a daily basis) if he has any extra cash he’d like to hand over. Shopping seemed to be what we did best. Well, that and laughing, because Trent is always good for a few laughs. A friend of mine recently noted that all good things must come to and end – sad but true. However, I think it could also allude to the possibility that many more adventures are on the way. Let’s hope so.

Noteworthy

In a few short hours I will be off to the airport to pick up my little Sis and our good friend Trent. I’m really looking forward to their visit. Let me try that again. I am really, REALLY looking forward to their visit! Better. While Trent was here over the holidays, it will be Jena’s first trip to China. I can’t wait to show her around Suzhou and give her a sample of what life’s been like for Klynt and me over the past two years. I realize the upcoming days are going to fly by and we’ll be wishing for more time, but I am ever so thankful for the following weeks ahead.
